Steen’s Syrup Cake
This is a cake that I grew up with. I mean the Steen’s Factory was just up the road. Also the delivery drivers seem to give those bright yellow cans out all the time. It’s a great cake for the cool air we are getting now. Dark, rich and spicy.
Ingredients:
1 egg
1 cup Steen's Pure Cane Syrup
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/3 cup salad oil
½ cup milk
1 ½ cups flour, measured after sifting
Instructions:
Combine all dry ingredients except sugar. Beat egg and sugar until creamy. Add syrup, mix well, add oil, mix. Add dry ingredients, beat 100 stokes or 3 minutes with mixer at a moderate speed; add milk and vanilla. Mix. Do not overbeat. Pour in pan or layers. Cook at 375 degrees.
