Booker Bacon Dog
he Booker Bacon Dog! Super Simple Sunday Inspired by a Louisiana girl in Memphis. I had heard of a Memphis Style Hot dog but couldn’t find it. So I decided to come home and add a little Louisiana to this mysterious Memphis Dog and name it after two great musicians who share a name. Booker T from Memphis and James Booker from New Orleans. I kept the Memphis and added some Louisiana flavors. A bacon wrapped smoked sausage with a tangy Cajun inspired BBQ sauce with cheese and green onions. I mean with a name like Booker it has to have green onions.
Recipe:
2- 4 Smoked Sausage links
10-12 slices of Bacon
1 tbsp Veggie Oil
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 cloves garlic minced
1 1/2 cups Ketchup
1/4 cup Apple cider vinegar
1/8 cup dark brown sugar
2 tbsp Worcestershire
1 tbsp Cajun Power Garlic Sauce
1 tbsp Creole Mustard
1 tbsp Hot Sauce
1 tbsp Steens Syrup
1 tsp black pepper
1 cup grated cheddar
1/2 cup sliced green onions
2-4 soft breads like po-boy bread.
Wrap you sausages with Bacon and either grill or bake in a 350 degree oven till Bacon is browned. While you sausage cooks make BBQ sauce. In Saucepan heat oil and add onions and garlic. Sauté till slightly browned around 5-6 minutes. Stir in rest of the ingredients and bring to simmer. Simmer for 10-15 minutes and take off heat. Once sausage is done place in warmed or toasted bun and top with BBQ sauce, cheese and green onions. * I don’t like liquid smoke but if you want a smokier sauce add a tsp of Liquid Smoke
